Nov 4, 2010 - This was educational for me. Latin music IS diverse and wonderful. My favorite and I think significant was SELENA. She literally was a genre, man. I love her, she is the reason I listen to latin music. R.I.P Selena.

Oct 22, 2010 - didn't realize that latin music in the U.S. dated all the way back to WWI. This is an incredible series, and I saw the whole thing. You can watch it at pbs(.)org for free

Sep 11, 2010 - @cerv7 - actually, the Argentine Tango craze happened in Europe in the early 20th Century, not in the USA, that's why it was not included in this doc, as it is about Latin music made big in the USA. I am Argentine and would have loved to have seen some of my country's music mentioned in the film (Tango, Chacarera, Chamame, Zamba, etc), but recognize that our music didn't really make much of an imprint outside of Argentina (& Europe & Japan for the Tango). Peace.

Jul 23, 2010 - @ultimatechorus true, Ricans added the electric and plena and bomba cuts into the dembow beat which belongs to Jamaicans and Black Panamanians. Today's raggaeton is very different. I like old school denbow beat songs though like jamaican raggae and el general from Panama. I do like Tego though because he is straight into Puerto rican bomba in his raggaeton, not too much electro vibe in it.
